Activity Guides

Overview: In this activity, students will practice a simple yet powerful calming technique that can be used anywhere at any time. Students discuss the importance of taking the time to breathe in order to give their brain time to stop and think before making an important decision about their behavior.

Overview: Strong communication skills are the key to success in school and beyond! In this fun communication activity, students practice sending, receiving, understand and responding to simple messages being passed around. When the process becomes more complicated, students get to problem solve their way to success!

Overview: While describing simple illustrations to their partner, students will get to see what happens when the communication process gets interrupted and directions are misinterpreted. Students will then practice and experience the importance of clear communication and asking good questions.

Overview: Were famous people always famous? Has every person who contributed to science, sports and arts always been celebrated? Students will learn that many famous people experienced failure and negativity along the way and had to use their S.T.A.R. Power to succeed!

Overview: The basis for our Peaceful People curriculum, S.T.A.R. Power can be seen as a representation of a person’s self-worth. Students will visualize what their good thoughts and feelings could look like, then get to put their vision on paper for all to see!

Overview: “I have feelings, yes I do. My friends and family have them too!” Younger students will enjoy chanting fun rhymes while using their bodies to show what common emotions might look like. Students will practice how to express challenging emotions safely and discuss how all emotions can be peaceful.

Overview: Part of our original 16-track CD, Stand Tall, the Listening Song is way more than just a song. Each verse is its own lesson on being a peaceful listener. This Activity Guide is complete with a printable lyric sheet and easily teachable hand motions!

Overview: Every day, we are surrounded by symbols that represent companies and brands. What would your own personal logo look like? How would you represent yourself? Students will design and create their own logo to share their S.T.A.R. Power with the world!

Overview: This activity allows students to see how the consequences of their behavior and their community are connected. Using a simple paper chain, students will see how peaceful behavior can promote more peaceful behavior and how easily not-so-peaceful behavior can affect the whole community.

Overview: What helps you to feel peaceful? In this staple of the What Is Peace? Lesson, students discover multiple ways to encourage feeling peaceful. Through group brainstorm and discussion, they will learn that not everyone experiences peaceful feelings the same way.

Overview: Our foundation for the Community lesson, this activity shows students how their decisions affect others and how one peaceful or not-so-peaceful decision can have a widespread impact that will ripple back to them.

Overview: Everyone needs a peaceful role model. In this activity, students are asked to think about a kind and respectful adult in their life and get the opportunity to create a thank you for all that their S.T.A.R. does!

Time: 2 days: 25 minutes (Day 1), 15 minutes (Day 2)

Overview: Craft time! A fantastic way to create a tangible example of self-worth, this two-day activity allows students to practice affirmations, cooperation, patience and giving compliments.

Overview: A fun and powerful movement activity that can be used to teach Celebrating Diversity, Communication or Community. Stickerheads helps students develop nonverbal communication skills while showing that everyone in the Community belongs.

Overview: Self Control is a central message in the Peaceful People program and this activity shows that everyone can make positive choices about their behavior, no matter their feelings. In teams, students will take turns reading and acting out scenarios that earn their team points if they use their Peaceful People strategies or lose their team points if they lose their Self Control!

Overview: Students will analyze the positive and negative consequences of keeping and losing your Self Control while practicing working together in a group setting. Each group decides how to present their findings to the rest of the class.
