Self Control

Overview: This session focuses on the concepts of recognizing feelings and choosing behaviors that are safe and respectful even while experiencing a challenging emotion. Students will be introduced to Red, Yellow and Green Zone behaviors and will practice self control techniques to stay in or return to the Green Zone when faced with an emotion that triggers a potentially hurtful behavior.

Objectives: In this session, students will:

  1. Define self control 
  2. Brainstorm emotions and responses to emotions
  3. Identify common triggers to challenging emotions
  4. Be introduced to the Traffic Light visual to help define safe behaviors
  5. Practice calming S.T.A.R. power techniques
