School Vacation and Summer Programs
SIGNATURE EVENTSPeaceful School staff will work with program staff to plan single day events for students. Events will be designed to meet both full day and half-day needs. Each event will select a theme or topic and all activities and discussion will be focused around the theme. School staff may work with Peaceful School Coordinators to develop a theme specific to the needs of the building or they may select from the following themes:
- Teaching Peace Through The Study of The Environment
- Teaching Peace Through The Study of Families
- Teaching Peace Through The Study of Animals
- Teaching Peace Through The Literature of Leo Lionni
- Personal Safety Awareness
FAMILY EVENTSPeaceful School staff will work with site staff to plan events for students and their parents. Families and School Staff will be invited to participate in a family focused event that enables parents to participate as full-partners in their child’s education. Each event will select a theme or topic and all activities and discussion will be focused around the theme. School staff may work with Peaceful School Program Coordinators to develop a theme specific to the needs of the building or they may select from the following themes:
- Teaching Peace Through The Study of The Environment
- Teaching Peace Through The Study of Families
- Teaching Peace Through The Study of Animals
- Teaching Peace Through The Literature of Leo Lionni
- Personal Safety Awareness
PROGRAM COORDINATIONFor each site that is selecting multiple Peaceful School event programs, a program coordinator is assigned to facilitate on-site project management. The Program Coordinator typically provides both coordination and participates as a presenter educator.
- The Peaceful School Program Coordinator and support staff will work with identified school staff to select from Service Learning, Peace Through the Arts Programs or a combination of both.
- Peaceful Schools will assign a Program Coordinator who will assist in the planning, development and implementation of after school and vacation & recreational programs focused on character, conflict resolution, citizenship, and civility.
- The Peaceful School Program Coordinator will work with school facilitators align regular day and after school/vacation & recreational programs.
- The extent to which the Peaceful School Program Coordinator is involved is determined by the individual needs assessment for each participating school .
