Behavior Support Coach – East Syracuse Minoa School District

Are you passionate about building community and encouraging social-emotional skill-building? Do you have experience working with K-12 students? Peaceful Schools is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Behavior Support Coach to work with students identified with a need for individualized behavior support, coaching and feedback. This position is based in East Syracuse Minoa School District.

The Behavior Coach will work under the guidance and direction of the School Behavior Specialist to implement the individual behavior plan. The coach will seek to support the student’s personal sense of competence and agency to apply social emotional and behavioral skills to navigate the demands of the school day. Ultimately the goal is to support students through instances of dysregulated/escalated behavior and coach the student in building a continuum of productive strategies to be able to recognize, manage and respond to the antecedent and setting event that the student experiences or exhibits prior to the off-task behavior expressions. The Behavior Coach will work with the Behavior Intervention Specialist and the corresponding stakeholders (Parent/Guardian, Teachers, Therapists) to understand the root cause(s) of the triggers, emotions and environmental cues that precede internalizing and externalizing behaviors.

The behavior coach will work closely with the classroom teacher to support strategies for re-setting and returning students to class, recognizing that the adults in the classroom may also require an opportunity to de-escalate or reset from incidents that may have resulted in significant disruption to the classroom community. The Behavior Coach will also support communication with the family to support clear communication and collaboration between the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the school-based staff involved in the students support plan.

Support the implementation of individualized and targeted strategies for engaging youth in the development of building and applying social-emotional-behavioral competency and personal agency (confidence). The Behavior Coach will work primarily with youth presenting with high needs, complex patterns of disruptive, off-task, and dysregulated behavior. The role will require staff to be responsive to needs that occur in real time (Responsive/Individualized De-escalation and Intervention) to support the re-set and return to classroom activity. The role will also require staff to provide pro-active interventions in response to patterns of behavior.

Individual plans will be designed to address the lagging skills related to social and emotional regulation, mental wellness, and strategies for building attachment with peers and school-based staff. The continuum of supports is correlated with Tier III intervention, indicating support is required for individualized teaching, modeling, and rehearsal of foundational social skills.

· Conduct outreach and engagement to families/guardians of students on the coaching roster. Provide support to connect families with school-based resources when identified, for example an internal referral to the Community Schools Coordinator.
